She was serving as Honourable Commissioner, Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Post Presidential election Disturbances in Kaduna State in April 2011, when she got the present appointment as Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Environment.

Mrs. Mailafia is a philanthropist who loves reading and travelling. She speaks fluent English and has a flair for Yoruba, French and Arabic; Hausa is her mother tongue.

 Other achievements:

  • As Minister of Environment, Mrs. Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafia has resuscitated the National Council on Environment (NCE), encouraged regular interaction and synergy with environment stakeholders under the umbrella of Ecofairs;
  • She is the Chairman, National Committee on Ecological Problems (NCEP)
  • She has Led Nigeria’s delegations to International events including the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate change (UNFCCC) COP17/CMP7 Climate Change Negotiations in Durban, South Africa in 2011, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council in Nairobi, Kenya in February 2012 and the United Nation’s Conference on Sustainable Development, RIO+20, Brazil, in June 2012.
  • She is the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Assessment of Flood Impacts in Nigeria.
  • Under her leadership, the Ministry has upgraded the Special Climate Change Unit to a full Department; the National Policy on Climate Change was approved by the Federal Executive Council; the Nigeria National Programme Document on Reducing emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+); completed the implementation strategy for the Great Green Wall Programme ready for launching by Mr. President; Acquired Para-Military Status for the National Parks Service through Presidential approval.
